About us
Downtown Boise
Who runs Boise Walking Tours?

Linda Byron and Judy Secrist founded Boise Walking Tours to share their love and knowledge of Idaho's capital city. Julie Fanselow, author of Idaho Off the Beaten Path and many magazine articles about Boise, joined them in 2010. Click here to read what people have to say about our tours.

How long do tours last? When are tours available?

Boise Walking Tours generally last 75 to 90 minutes. They are arranged at your convenience, although we occasionally hold drop-in "Impromptours"; see the home page for upcoming dates and times. We generally need at least four guests and 48 hours' notice to do a tour. Please call (208) 859-4907 for details.

We can do tours for small groups of six to 20 people. Tour groups and meeting planners are urged to contact us as early as possible so we can guarantee your dates. Contact us at (208) 859-4907 or via our web form to reserve your tour or get more information.

Where do the tours go?
How much walking is involved?

Tours generally start at the fountain on The Grove (outside the Boise Centre convention hall). Your guide will confirm this when you reserve your tour; an alternative meeting place may be necessary during special events.

From there, you will spend about 75 to 90 minutes seeing and hearing about historic, architectural, and cultural landmarks in and near downtown Boise, walking at a slow but steady pace, with frequent stops. The tours are also accessible to people in wheelchairs.

Here is a map of our standard route. With advance notice, we can alter this to see other nearby sights you'd like to see including the Anne Frank Idaho Human Rights Memorial or the Idaho Capitol.

How much do tours cost?

Your personally guided walking tour of Boise costs $15 per person at the start of the tour. A four-person minimum usually applies, so bring some friends. Gratuities are always appreciated!

We accept cash, or you can prepay your tour via your credit card or bank account via PayPal. Sorry, no personal checks.

At the tour group and guide's option, your tour can conclude with a no-host (that is, pay-your-own-way) gathering at a local Boise eatery or watering hole.

What about the weather?
How should I dress?

Boise is walkable nearly year-round, so we can schedule tours any month of the year. Late fall through early spring (November through March), late mornings or afternoons are generally the best time to walk. April through October, tours can be scheduled any time during daylight hours.

Boise frequently gets hot in July and August, but it also stays light past 9 p.m. For those reasons, we suggest that summertime tours be booked after 7 p.m.

For all tours, dress for the weather. Please wear comfortable walking shoes. You might want to carry a water bottle.

We reserve the right to cancel a tour due to inclement weather. Click here for Boise's 10-day weather outlook.

What about parking?

Click here for a map of parking locations in downtown Boise.
The City Centre garage at 9th and Front streets is the most convenient to The Grove, where our tours begin. City garages are free for the first hour and $2.50/hour after that. On weekends, you can park for free along city streets, even in metered locations. Or walk to The Grove from your downtown hotel!
